The Hawai‘i Department of Health has canceled a high bacteria notification for Keaukaha Beach, also known as 4 Miles, in Hilo.
The Health Department reports that water sample retesting results showed enterococci levels no longer exceed the threshold level.
High bacteria levels of 2,005 per 100 mL were recently detected during a routine beach monitoring. Because the department was uncertain of the representativeness of the first sample, the beach’s water was retested.
According to the Health Department, Keaukaha Beach has historically met the acceptable beach threshold level, and there was no known source of fecal contamination.
