A guided startup program for Hawaiʻi Island entrepreneurs will be introduced by business instructors Clint Day, UC Berkeley and James Czarski, UH Hilo. Out of Notre Dame University, the workshop series is the result of a collaboration with global partners and the lean startup community for specific populations who reside in rural, low-income and disadvantaged communities. It provides a step-by-step set of actions designed to develop business acumen, access capital, and grow a sustainable business. Evidence shows entrepreneurial activity is a major contributor to economic advancement. In this one hour presentation, instructors will provide examples based on current conditions and tools that participants can utilize to take the next steps in their business development. Following the presentation, participants can sign up to enroll in the 9-month business development program which consists of six months of training. Learner outcomes include how to startup a venture, business models and types and why entrepreneurship works. Following the classroom phase, entrepreneurs are partnered with mentors from local businesses.
