Big Island Students Write Letters to Nation’s Governors in Support of Reproductive Rights

Rebecca Tang and Genevieve Savage, rising seniors at Parker School in Waimea, recently hosted a letter writing session at the school to urge governors throughout the United States to protect reproductive rights in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson’s Women’s Health Organization, the decision that overturned Roe v. Wade.

The event attracted 17 community members, who wrote a total of 39 letters.

Most of the attendees were high school students. Some had never written a letter to a politician before, but had guidance from Tang and Savage, who prepared templates, provided materials, compiled cited statistics about abortion and compiled mailing addresses of the governors.
