A Hawai‘i Community College student was selected as the 2022-23 winner of the annual Merriman’s Culinary Scholarship awarded by Merriman’s Waimea.

HCC Culinary Arts student Mailee Cervantes-Bautista was awarded the $1,500 scholarship and a baking internship opportunity at Merriman’s Waimea, where she will learn directly from Merriman’s skilled culinary professionals. The scholarship is awarded annually and is based on an applicant’s outstanding qualities, passion for the industry and financial need.

For the past 22 years, Merriman’s Culinary Scholarship has been awarded to students entering or continuing in the field of culinary arts at either HCC or the University of Hawai‘i. To date, Merriman’s has donated a total of $57,000 and assisted more than 40 culinary students in advancing their education.
