UH-Hilo Baseball Team’s Yamauchi Collects D2CCA Second Team All-Region Honors

Accolades keep rolling in for a member of the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo Vulcans baseball team.

Casey Yamauchi, a Hilo native and the Vulcans’ starting shortstop, on Wednesday, May 18, was named Second Team All-Region by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association for his outstanding performances during the 2022 season. Earlier this week, Yamauchi received All-District honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America and was named a Third Team All-PacWest selection.

Yamauchi is one of the 32 players selected from the Pacific West Conference, the Great Northwest Athletic Conference and the California Collegiate Athletic Association for the D2CCA All-Region honor and is one of only 14 PacWest selections.

Yamauchi had the highest batting average in the PacWest, with a .403, and the least amount of strikeouts, with seven, during this season.

As the Vulcans’ lead off batter, he had 26 multi-hit games and posted three games with four hits this year. His .403 batting average was composed of 75 hits, a PacWest leading 21 doubles and one triple. He scored 46 times and drove in 21 RBIs this season.

Yamauchi started every game but one at shortstop in 2022. He was a part of 21 double plays and ended the season with a .941 fielding percentage.
