Fire Damages Residential Structure on Mohouli Street in Hilo

The Hawai‘i Fire Department responded to a structure fire shortly before 7 p.m. New Year’s Day at a location on Mohouli Street in Hilo.

According to a fire department press release, the first unit of firefighters was at the scene by 6:50 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 1, following the 6:46 p.m. alarm.

The two-story residential structure was 80% involved in flames upon firefighters’ arrival. The department says the nine units that responded were able to get the blaze under control and extinguished by 7:18 p.m.

No injuries were reported.

The fire department press release says the amount of damages cause by the blaze is an estimated $140,000.

No further information was available.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
