Hilo Man Charged in Mo’oheau Bandstand Assault

A 48-year-old Hilo man has been arrested in connection to an assault that occurred at the Mo’oheau Bandstand in Hilo on Thursday night.

Officers from the Hawai’i Police Department were called to the scene at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, where a 49-year-old Hilo man was punched several times and suffered serious injuries. The victim, who has not been identified, was initially taken to the Hilo Medical Center, but was later transferred to The Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu, where he is in stable condition.

William Josh Sutton, 48, was arrested at the scene. He was charged on Friday morning with first-degree assault and later charged with contempt court. His combined bail is set at $5,450.

Sutton remains in the Hilo police cellblock as Area I Criminal Investigations Section Detectives investigate the incident. His initial court appearance is scheduled for Monday, May 9.
