A single-vehicle crash in Nanawale Saturday evening that led to the death of a woman is under investigation.

Hawai’i County Fire Department crews arrived at the scene of the incident, along Nanawale Boulevard, at 8:34 p.m., where they found a single mid-sized car with extensive rear and top damage. The vehicle had struck trees and snapped a utility pole before it landed about five feet below the grade of the road.

HFD personnel located a male passenger lying on the ground next to the vehicle. The man said the vehicle’s driver had fled the scene before HFD arrived and that the pair were the only occupants involved.

After using thermal imaging equipment, the body of a woman with no signs of life was located in thick brush about ten feet from where the vehicle stopped.
