Police: Big Island Equipment Warranty Scam
A warranty scam is being warned against by the Hawai’i Police Department.
The scam is the latest in a string this week that includes an ongoing mail lottery scam and a Hawai’i State Judiciary phone scam.
Two men in a U-Haul van have reportedly been going door to door in Puna selling “cheaply made equipment,” including generators and pressures washers, claiming that the items will be repaired by a rental company in the Shipman Industrial Park in Kea’au if necessary.
Police say the rental company is not in any way affiliated with the sellers of the equipment and that it is in fact a scam.
