A resolution authored by Senator Mazie Hirono that recognizes February 2016 as American Heart Month, and Feb. 5, 2016 specifically as National Wear Red Day, was unanimously approved by the United States Senate.

For the past two years, Senator Hirono has led the effort for recognition of the month.

“I thank my colleagues for joining me in raising awareness of heart disease, the leading cause of death in the United States,” said Senator Hirono. “While February is American Hearth Month, it’s important to continue to raise awareness of heart health throughout the year.”
