HFD: Ocean View Fire Under Investigation

A Hawaiian Ocean View Estates fire that took place Tuesday evening continues to be investigated by authorities.

On Thursday morning, the Hawai’i County Fire Department said that a total of eight firefighters, including four volunteer firefighters, arrived on scene Tuesday to find a three bedroom home structure engulfed in flames.

The home, located on the 92-8200 block of Bamboo Lane in HOVE, was deemed a total loss due to fire, smoke, and water damage, according to HFD officials.

On Wednesday, the Hawai’i Police Department said a man was arrested in connection to an arson investigation related to the incident.

James M. Thomas was arrested just under an hour after authorities arrived on scene. He was arrested on suspicion of arson, as well as on unrelated bench warrants.

Police also charged Thomas with violating terms of conditional discharge and two counts of contempt of court.

Thomas is being held at the Kona police cellblock as Area II Criminal Investigations Section detectives continue the arson investigation.

Two women and two teenage boys were in the home when it caught fire. No one was injured.
