Man Charged in Hilo Burglary

Twenty-five-year-old Colin Kerrigan has been charged with burglary and theft following a break-in on Wednesday in Hilo

South Hilo patrol officers with the Hawai’i Police Department responded to a burglary alarm on the 200 block of Kukuau Street at 11:01 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers observed a man running from the scene. The man, who was later identified as Kerrigan, fell in a yard during a foot pursuit.

Kerrigan, who has no permanent address, was arrested. In the area where he had fallen, officers recovered two television remotes and a TV power cord.

After investigating further, officers learned that a television has been removed from the house.

Kerrigan was taken to the Hilo police cellblock as Area I Criminal Investigations Section detectives continued to investigate.

During the investigation, all the stolen items were recovered.

Detectives charged Kerrigan at 12:30 p.m. Friday with first-degree burglary and third degree theft.

Kerrigan’s bail was set at $5,500. He remains at the cellblock pending his initial court appearance on Monday.
