Weekly Dengue Information Sessions Set by State

The Hawai’i Department of Health plans to host weekly dengue information sessions in Hilo and Kona through February.

Community sessions will provide updates and answers to questions from the community about the dengue fever outbreak on the Big Island, as well as education about the prevalence, transmission, and symptoms of dengue fever, along with outbreak response efforts, how to interpret case counts and maps, and the best ways to “Fight the Bite.”

Sessions in Hilo will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Thursdays at the State Office Building, Rooms A, B, and C, as well as in Kona at the West Hawai’i Civic Center, Mayor’s Conference Room. The State Office Building in Hilo is located at 75 Aupuni Street and West Hawai’i Civic Center, Mayor’s Conference Room is located at 74-5044 Ane Keohokalole Highway.

Beginning on Jan. 19, weekly sessions will also be held on Tuesdays at 12:30 p.m. at Yano Hall. Yano Hall is located at 74-5044 Ane Keohokalole Highway.

As of Tuesday afternoon, 213 cases of dengue fever had been confirmed by DOH. The number included three cases confirmed between Monday and Tuesday. Only one of the cases remains infectious.
