UPDATE: Mosquito Control Continues Island-Wide

The confirmed number of dengue fever cases on the Big Island has risen by 11 cases since Friday.
Hawai’i Department of Health officials say that there are now 49 confirmed cases reported on the Big Island. Ten of the cases affected individuals under the age of 18, and ten visitors have been impacted.
Onset of illness is now between Sept. 11 and Nov. 7.

As Friday’s confirmed dengue fever case count rose to 38, spraying operations throughout the island continued Saturday by Hawai’i Department of Health crews.
Mosquito control spraying operations are being conducted in various locations across the Big Island with high presence of mosquitos and confirmed cases of dengue fever.
Hawai’i County Civil Defense announced Saturday morning that DOH crews would conduct operations in the areas of Napoopoo, Honaunau, Captain Cook, Ookala, Papaaloa, Kea’au, and Mountain View.
Two dengue fever community meetings will be held next week on the following schedule:
Monday, Nov. 16 at the Hilo High School cafeteria
Tuesday, Nov. 17 at the Kea’au High School cafeteria.
Both meetings will begin at 6 p.m.
Symptoms of dengue fever include fever, joint or muscle paints, headache or pain behind the eyes, and rash.

Anyone who thinks they may have contracted dengue fever on the Big Island should call 933-0912 if they’re located in East Hawai’i or 322-4877 in West Hawai’i. If an individual is currently ill and worried that they may have contracted dengue fever, they should contact their primary care physician.
Mosquito concerns should be reported to 974-6010 in East Hawai’i or 322-1513 in West Hawai’i.
