Traffic Signal Removal to Close Pauahi Street Intersection
Temporary traffic signals, power lines, and poles used during the Kamehameha Avenue project will be removed on Wednesday, Oct. 7 and Thursday, Oct. 8.
During the removal, the Pauahi Street intersection will be closed in all directions from 8:30 p.m. Wednesday through 5 a.m. Thursday.
Off-duty officers will be posted at the Ponahawai Street intersection, Pauahi Street intersection, and at Wailoa Bridge to facilitate traffic movement.
During the closure the following detours will take place:
Those traveling west along Kamehameha Avenue will be detoured through the canoe parking area and onto Bayfront Highway northbound.
Motorists traveling east along Kamehameha Avenue will be detoured onto Ponahawai Street.
In addition, east-bound travelers on Bayfront Highway will be detoured through the canoe parking area and will merge onto Kamehameha Avenue by the Wailoa Bridge.
Individuals looking to access Chevron, Bayfront Motors, and the King Kamehameha State will be able to access the area through Pauahi Street.
Motorists will not be able to enter Kamehameha Avenue from Pauahi Street.
The County of Hawai’i Department of Public Works advises motorists to expect delays in the area and use alternate routes, avoiding the Pauahi Street intersection if it is possible.
