A flash flood warning has been posted for the area until 9 p.m. Thursday. According to the National Weather Service, light to moderate rain was falling in the area, as of 6 p.m., but earlier heavy showers created excessive runoff, forcing the closure.

A flood advisory remains in effect for much of West Hawai’i until 7:30 p.m.
