DLNR Reopens State Parks Following Small Tsunami

The Department of Land and Natural Resources reopened all low-lying coastal state parks and forested areas on the Big Island and throughout the state Thursday morning.

As a precaution, DLNR announced that all state parks would be closed Thursday as the state was under a Tsunami Advisory in anticipation of a potential tsunami waves generated by an 8.3 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Central Chile Wednesday afternoon.

DLNR staff monitored the areas Thursday and found no damage in any of the areas.

Small boat harbors remained open overnight and into Thursday. No damage was reported at any of the harbors.

The Tsunami Advisory for the state was canceled Thursday morning following small overnight waves impacting the state.
