UPDATE: Flood Warning Extended to 9:45 p.m., Advisory Posted

The Flood Warning has been extended to 9:45 p.m.
At 6:30 p.m. radar showed very heavy rain falling over the lower Kona slopes from near the airport to Keauhou with rainfall rates of 3 to 4 inches per hour. Numerous traffic and road issues are being reported along Kuakini Highway.
Locations included in the warning are Kailua-Kona, Captain Cook, Honaunau, Napoopoo, Kahaluu, Keauhou, Kealakekua and Holualoa.

A Flash Flood Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service through 6:45 p.m. The warning replaces the previous advisory for the affected area. A Flood Advisory remains in effect through 5:45 p.m. for all other areas previously listed.
Just before 3:40 p.m., NWS reported that radar indicated torrential rainfall in an area from Captain Cook to Kailua-Kona. Rain in the area was falling at about three inches per hour and holds the potential to cause flash flooding.
NWS reports that heavy showers and thunderstorms were also impacting the Ka’u district upslope from Kawa Flats, along with an area near Pu’uanahulu.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Advisory for parts of the Big Island through 5:45 p.m. Tuesday.
Just before 3 p.m., radar showed heavy rain and thunderstorms developing over most of the Big Island. Rain in some areas, including the Ka’u district, is in excess of two inches per hour. Those areas include upslope spots from Punalu’u and Naalehu, along with the South Kona district from Holualoa to Honaunau, the Hilo district from Volcano to Hilo, and the North Kona district upslope from Waikoloa Beach Resort.
The South Kona District and portions of the North Kona district are also included in the advisory.
