Nighttime airfield maintenance work at Hilo International Airport will cause the closure of Runway 8-26 on Wednesday, Sept. 9 through Thursday Sept. 10, as well as Sunday, Sept. 13 through Monday, Sept. 14. Each of the closures will last from 9:30 p.m. through 5 a.m.

The Hawai’i State Department of Transportation says that Runway 3-21 will be used instead of Runway 8-26, resulting in increased traffic over the Hilo and Keaukaha areas.

All work is weather permitting. Work will also be conducted at both ends of the runway during the day to reduce activity at night.
