Kilauea Summit Update – 8/10/15

A slight inflationary trend at the summit of Kilauea was recorded on Monday. The current inflation continues the summit’s normal behaviors after a lull in activity took place last week.

Hawaiian Volcano Observatory officials say the inflationary tilt that had been occurring for the past 24 hours began to slow early Monday morning.

Only slight fluctuations within the Overlook crater’s lava lake have taken place over the past day, according to HVO.

Seismicity both below Kilauea’s summit and Puʻu ʻŌʻō remain low.

At Puʻu ʻŌʻō, HVO continues to report that webcam views have shown no changes in the persistent incandescent crater vents.

Observation of the June 27, 2014 lava flow through webcam imagery shows continued activity on the flow field. HVO geologists say the flow is active and has surface flows in three areas to the northeast and east of Puʻu ʻŌʻō.
