Inflationary tilt at Kilauea’s summit, which began at 12 a.m. on Wednesday, continues to be recorded, according to Hawaiian Volcano Observatory.
Despite normal seismicity below Kilauea’s summit, HVO scientists say that seismic tremor is occurring at the Overlook vent with periodic bursts that are associated with spattering. This activity is reportedly contained within the vent.
Along the north flank of Puʻu ʻŌʻō, tiltmeters continue to show no significant tilt, and seismicity in the area is at background levels, as reported by HVO.
HVO scientists continue to monitor the June 27 lava flow through webcam and satellite imagery. The images show several breakouts remaining to the northeast of Puʻu ʻŌʻō and are limited to within 5.3 miles from the vent.
