The Department of Water Supply will temporarily shut off water along Manono Street between Lanikaula Street and Kekuanaoa Street in Hilo Thursday morning between 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.

According to the DWS, the shut-off is necessary to create a water main connection for a new fire hydrant within the Manono Street Improvements Project.

Following the resumption of water service, the waterlines will be flushed and cleaned and may lead to turbid or discolored water. Trapped air may also be noticed in the plumbing system but will be released as water is used.

Customers in the affected areas are advised to take necessary precautions to protect their property, including devices that are dependent on water or water pressure.
