Kilauea Summit Update – 5/27/15

After a recent deflationary trend at the summit of Kilauea, Hawaiian Volcano Observatory noted Wednesday morning that the summit began to record a minor inflationary tilt around 12 a.m.

Seismic levels at the Kilauea summit, upper East Rift Zone, and Southwest Rift Zone have all returned to normal background levels over the past week.

HVO notes that no tilt in significant levels have been recorded on the north flank of Puʻu ʻŌʻō. This activity is also consistent with what has been happening in the area over the past week.

June 27 lava flow observations continue through webcam and satellite imagery. These images continue to provide HVO scientists with the observations necessary to determine that several breakouts continue to the northeast of Puʻu ʻŌʻō. These flows remain within 5.3 miles of Puʻu ʻŌʻō.
