Twenty-year-old Hilo man Paiea Young is being held by the Hawai’i Police Department after being charged with terroristic threatening. The charge follows a confrontation that occurred on Thursday.

Police say South Hilo Patrol officers responded at 8:12 a.m. to reports of a man who showed a knife and firearm during a verbal argument. Officers found that the man had threatened a 42-year-old Hilo man and a 62-year-old woman at the intersection of Ponahawai Street and Kilauea Avenue.

Not long after the incident, police located Young at his Haili Street apartment. He was arrested and taken to the Hilo police cellblock while Area I Criminal Investigation Section detectives continued to investigate.

After serving a search warrant at Young’s apartment, detectives recovered a bb gun and a knife that matched the description of the one described in the confrontations.
