UH Mānoa Professor and Wife Donate $75,000 for Scholarship at UH Hilo
Retired University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa professor Dr. Jim Carpenter and his wife Jeanne have donated $75,000 for a scholarship at the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo to help students interested in veterinary careers and working with animals.
“Because we have been blessed in our careers, health and spiritual growth while living in Hawai‘i we wanted to give back to the community,” said Dr. Carpenter. “With these scholarships we can help young people fulfill their dreams to attend UH and attain degrees that will prepare them for rewarding animal-related careers.”
The James and Jeanne Carpenter Endowed Scholarships at the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo are available to full-time undergraduate students studying at the College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Natural Resource Management with a Pre-Veterinary Medicine or Livestock Production specialty in Animal Science, or Aquaculture.
Dr. Carpenter says he hopes the scholarships will help students free up time from working off campus to focus on their education, as well as participate in valuable internship and research project experiences.
