No Tsunami Threat Following Chile 6.9 M Quake

At 8:57 HST, a 6.9 magnitude earthquake occurred in Northern Chile.

The earthquake was centered 67 miles east-southeast of San Pedro de Atacama, Chile.

According to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, the earthquake has not generated a destructive Pacific wide tsunami.

Hawai’i County Civil Defense also confirmed that the Big Island is not under threat of a tsunami.

This is the second earthquake in the Pacific over the past three days. On Feb. 9, a 4.3 magnitude earthquake occurred near the summit of Kilauea.
