Man Arrested, Charged in Stolen Vehicle Incident

The Hawai’i Police Department has a 27-year-old man in custody following an incident involving a stolen truck and several accidents.

According to HPD, an officer observed a stolen Toyota pickup truck in the parking lot of a home improvement store on Maka’ala Street. While fleeing from officers, the suspect struck two parked vehicles, as well as the officer’s car, and nearly struck two pedestrians with the truck.

The suspect was recognized by the officer as Jerald Cline of Mountain View.

Cline was arrested by police on Thursday at a home in Mountain View. Additional stolen vehicles were also located in the processes.

Police took Cline to the Hilo cellblock while Area I Criminal Investigation Section detectives continued the investigation.

On Friday at 4 p.m. Cline was charged with three counts of first-degree terroristic threatening, three counts of criminal property damage, three counts of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, and one count each of resisting an order to stop, resisting arrest, and ownership prohibited for possessing ammunition.

Cline’s bail was set at $99,000. He remains at the Hilo cellblock awaiting his initial court appearance Monday.
