‘Āhalanui Park Closed for Cleanup and Repairs
‘Āhalanui Park in lower Puna has been closed by the Hawai’i County Department of Parks and Recreation for cleanup and repairs.
Known less formally as the “warm ponds”, the popular swimming spot was hit hard by the wind and high surf brought on by Tropical Storm Iselle. The destruction ranges from damaged rock walls and concrete walkways to deposit debris and damaged boulders in the swimming area.
The cleanup and repair work, being conducted by general contractor William C. Loeffler Construction Inc., began on Monday, Oct. 6 and is expected to be finished, weather and conditions permitting, by Nov. 10.
All areas of the park, including the pond, picnic pavilions, and parking area are closed as a safety precaution and to accommodate heavy equipment.
