EBay Victim of Cyber-Attack, Asks Users to Change Passwords
The online commerce site eBay today asked its users to change their passwords because of a cyberattack on its corporate information discovered earlier this month.
While its database was compromised, eBay said it has no evidence of unauthorized activity to eBay users.
The company said it also has no evidence of any unauthorized access to users’ financial or credit card information, which it said is stored separately in encrypted formats.
“However, changing passwords is a best practice and will help enhance security for eBay users,” eBay said in a statement.
The database that was compromised between late February and early March contained eBay customer’s name, password, email address, physical address, phone number and date of birth.
EBay said it would begin notifying users today via email to change their password. It said any user who used the same password on other sites should also change those passwords.
EBay users can change their password by visiting www.ebay.com/reset, the company said.
