UPDATE: Victim Identified in Mountain View Fatality

Police have identified the man who died in Wednesday’s head-on collision as Hubert F. Silva of Pearl City, Oahu.
The 69-year-old man was driving a 2002 Ford sedan that collided with a pickup truck that crossed the center line.

A 69-year-old man died this afternoon in a head-on collision on Highway 11 in Mountain View.
Police said a southbound 1995 Ford pickup truck driven by a 23-year-old Keaau man crossed the center line and struck a 2002 Ford sedan.
The 69-year-old victim, who has not been identified, was driving the sedan.
His passenger, a 64-year-old Mountain View woman, was transported to Hilo Medical Center in stable condition.
Police said the crash occurred at about 1:45 p.m. near the 13-mile marker in Mountain View.
The driver of the truck was also admitted to the hospital.
Four men — ages 19, 20, 21 and 22 — who were passengers in the pickup were treated for injuries and released.
An investigation of negligent homicide and driving without a license or insurance has been initiated against the driver of the pickup.
Police said it was not known whether drugs or alcohol were involved.

The death was the sixth traffic fatality of the year compared to 13 at this time last year.
