UPDATE: Police Identify Body Found Saturday in Hilo

Police have identified a body found Saturday along a Hilo shoreline as Jodi L. Masutomi of Hilo.

Masutomi, 48, was identified through fingerprints during an autopsy conducted today.

Police said the autopsy revealed injuries consistent with a fall from a height, but the determination of the cause of death is being deferred pending results of toxicology testing.

Masutomi’s body was found along the shoreline in the Wainaku area shortly before midnight Saturday.

Posted 2:49 p.m. Monday, April 28:

A coroner’s inquest case has been initiated after a woman’s body was found along a Hilo shoreline over the weekend.

Police received a report at 11:42 p.m. Saturday that a fisherman had found the body of a female Caucasian at the shore in the Wainaku area.

Police said the body has not been identified.

Foul play has not been ruled out.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday.
