Luoluo Hong, the University of Hawaii at Hilo’s vice chancellor for student affairs for the past six years, is taking a post at San Francisco State University, the California school announced.

Hong will take over as SF State’s vice president for student affairs on May 1.

Hong has been at UH-Hilo since 2007, when she was named acting athletic director. She was named to the vice chancellor position in 2008 and since 2010 has also been a tenured associate professor at the university’s College of Pharmacy.

It was announced last month that Hong was among three finalists for the position of chancellor at Louisiana State University at Alexandria.

According to a San Francisco State press release, Hong will succeed Jo Volkert, interim vice president for student affairs since fall 2012.

Her new post will include managing a budget of $60 million while leading a team responsible for a wide spectrum of student support services.

SF State has an enrollment of nearly 30,000 students and is the only master’s-level public university serving San Francisco, San Mateo and Marin counties, the university said.
