Kenoi Attending Mayors’ Conference in Washington DC
Big Island Mayor Billy Kenoi today travels to Washington DC for the US Conference of Mayors 82nd Winter Meeting.
Kenoi will join more than 280 of the nation’s mayors as well as congressional leaders and members of President Obama’s cabinet for a discussion of issues that affect municipalities such as trade, technology, climate change and affordable health care.
Kenoi will be joined by the state’s other mayors, Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell, Maui Mayor Alan Arakawa, and Kaua‘i Mayor Bernard Carvalho.
Kenoi is chair of the Hawaii Conference of Mayors and a member of the US Conference of Mayors National Advisory Board.
The conference is designed to strengthen federal-city relationships, and promote effective national urban and suburban policy.
Members of Obama’s cabinet scheduled to participate include Shaun Donovan, secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development; Jeh Johnson, secretary of the Department of Homeland Security; and Anthony Foxx, secretary of Transportation.
Managing Director Wally Lau will be acting mayor until Kenoi’s return.
