Young Brothers provides sailing schedule update
Safety remains the top priority of shipping firm Young Brothers following Hurricane Lowell.
Young Brothers is coordinating closely with U.S. Coast Guard, Hawai‘i Department of Transportation Harbors Division and relevant state agencies as ports reopen and operating conditions are assessed.
Some sailings could continue to change because of storm damage, harbor restrictions, port reopening decisions and ocean conditions.
All sailing schedules remain subject to change based on U.S. Coast Guard and state Health Department decisions regarding harbor access, restrictions, reopening status and safe operating conditions.
“We appreciate your patience and understanding as we operate safely and in coordination with the appropriate federal and state agencies,” said Young Brothers in its latest announcement Tuesday night.
Honolulu Harbor is currently operating under temporary restrictions for incoming and outgoing vessels, which could delay departure and arrival times for scheduled sailings.
Hilo, Kahului, Kaunakakai and Kawaihae ports are open for normal operations. Kaumalapau remains closed until the state Harbors Division determines it is safe to reopen.
Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation announced Tuesday evening that Nāwiliwili Harbor was reopened before 5 p.m. Tuesday by U.S. Coast Guard Captain of the Port.
As service resumes where conditions allow, Young Brothers will prioritize storm relief cargo to help move critical supplies to affected communities.
Sailing schedule updates
Honolulu to Nāwiliwili
RESCHEDULED to Sept. 9
- Barge rescheduled now expected to depart Wednesday and arrive Thursday, pending harbor status, ocean conditions.
- Barge will include prioritized storm relief cargo to support recovery efforts on Kaua‘i.
- Regularly scheduled Thursday sailing to Nāwiliwili remains pending and will be confirmed once U.S. Coast Guard and Harbors Division determine conditions allow safe operations.
Honolulu to Kawaihae sailing
DELAYED to Sept. 9
- Barge arrived at Kawaihae as scheduled Tuesday, but large swells made it unsafe to enter the harbor, as the channel experiences close-out conditions.
- Barge will attempt re-entry Wednesday.
- Port will operate gate hours from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, closed for lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. No empty container returns will be accepted after 12:30 p.m.
- NO MODIFICATIONS to cargo acceptance and availability Thursday.
Honolulu to Kaunakakai/Kaumalapau combo sailing
CANCELLED
- Barge will depart Honolulu and sail directly to Kaunakakai, arriving Wednesday as regularly scheduled.
- There are no changes to gate hours or cargo acceptance and availability.
- Kaumalapau sustained damage from Hurricane Lowell and is closed until further notice. The port will not be accepting any cargo until further notice.
Honolulu to Kawaihae sailing
RESCHEDULED to Sept. 11
- Barge to depart Friday from Honolulu and expected to arrive Sept. 12, subject to harbor restrictions, port status and safe ocean conditions.
- All mixed cargo must be received in Honolulu by 3 p.m. Wednesday.
- All dry palletized and refrigerated and loose LCL cargo must be received by 11 a.m. Thursday in Honolulu.
- All refrigerated and dry straightload cargo must be received by 10 a.m. Sept. 11 in Honolulu.
- Port of Kawaihae will have extended gate hours from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, closed from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for lunch.
NO livestock will be accepted on these sailings until further notice.
