UPDATE: Police report portion of Puna-bound lanes on Highway 11 previously closed now open

Update at 9:37 p.m. July 30, 2026: Hawai‘i Police Department reports that a portion of the Puna-bound lanes on Highway 11, previously closed near the Stainback Highway turn off, is now open.

Original story posted/updated at 8:41 p.m. July 30, 2026: Hawai‘i Police Department advises the public to avoid the Kea‘au-bound lanes of Highway 11 near Kipimana Street for at least the next 4 hours because of a traffic crash.

Highway 11 is closed near the 6-mile marker on the Panaʻewa Stretch, after the Stainback Highway turn off, in the Puna-bound direction.

Motorists are advised to use Stainback Highway as a detour.
