High surf warning replaced with high surf advisory for east-facing shores

National Weather Service forecasters in Honolulu replaced a previous high surf warning in place for east-facing shores of the state with a new high surf advisory as the east swell from Tropical Depression Fausto fell overnight below warning levels

The advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. July 29.

Surf of 8 to 12 feet is still forecast Wednesday morning but will quickly diminish to below 10 feet by this afternoon, eventually falling to below advisory thresholds as the storm system continues to weaken.

Strong breaking waves and strong currents along impacted shorelines will continue to make swimming and other ocean recreation activities dangerous while the advisory remains in effect.

The public is advised to heed all advice from ocean safety officials, and remember: when in doubt, don’t go out.
