Two men facing attempted murder charges following weekend stabbing in Kona

Two men from Kailua-Kona are facing assault and attempted murder charges after two men were reportedly stabbed over the weekend.

Charges stem from an incident on July 18 where Hawai‘i Island police initially responded to a weapons call at 10:51 p.m. after an affray reportedly broke out following a graduation party at the Kona Imin Center in Hōlualoa.

When Kona patrol officers arrived on scene, they found several individuals involved in the fight and discovered two men with stab wounds, according to a news release from Hawai‘i Island police. Brandon Damian Urzua, 25, was identified as the suspect who stabbed the reported victims and Brayan Damian Urzua, 27, was identified as an accomplice.

Both suspects were arrested along with two other adult males who were reportedly involved in the affray.

The other two males were released pending further investigation.

The first victim, a 41-year-old man from Kailua-Kona, suffered a stab wound to the left thigh area. He was treated by medics at the scene.

The second victim, a 39-year-old man from Hōlualoa, suffered a stab wound to the left buttock/hip area that penetrated the pelvic region, resulting in internal damage and significant blood loss.

He was transported to the Kona Community Hospital and was determined to be in critical condition. He was flown to Queen’s Medical Center on O‘ahu for further treatment.

Brandon Damian Urzua was charged with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault and two counts of second-degree assault. His bail was set at $1.2 million.

Brayan Damian Urzua was charged as an accomplice for second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault and second-degree assault. His bail was set at $1.15 million.
