Big Island Thursday weather: Flood watch, wind advisory, winter weather advisory

National Weather Service in Honolulu reports it canceled a high surf advisory previously in effect for the Big Island’s south-facing shores.

Surf along south facing shores has risen to advisory thresholds.

Still in effect for the Big Island

Flood watch remains in effect through Friday afternoon.

Wind advisory is in place for all island summits.

Winter weather advisory for island summits 12,500 is in place until Friday at 6 a.m. The Mauna Kea Access Road is closed.

The Salvation Army has teams at the ready to provide food, and emergency shelters may be opened across the state. 

The nonprofit is part of a team of agencies that assist during emergency disasters and is a member of the State of Hawai‘i Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster.
