High surf advisory issued for Hawaiʻi’s north shores through Monday

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a high surf advisory for north-facing shores across the Hawaiian Islands through 6 p.m. Monday, warning of dangerous ocean conditions.

The advisory covers Hawaiʻi Island, where waves of 12 to 16 feet are expected.

Forecasters said a moderate to large north-northwest swell will peak Sunday night into Monday, bringing elevated surf along exposed shorelines.

The swell may also affect west-facing shores of Maui and some eastern exposures on Oʻahu.

Officials warned that strong breaking waves and currents will create hazardous swimming conditions, with moderate impacts expected. Beachgoers are urged to follow guidance from ocean safety officials and avoid entering the water if conditions appear unsafe.
