16 lane closures scheduled during week of March 28-April 3 on Big Island state roadways
Hawai‘i Department of Transportation announces the following 16 scheduled lane closures and road work projects on Big Island state roadways on weekdays throughout the week of March 28-April 3.
NOTE: In observance of Good Friday, April 3, there will be no contraflow or lane closures unless otherwise permitted.

HIGHWAY 11
HILO TO VOLCANO
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction, between mile posts 0 and 36 in the vicinity of Banyan Drive, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. March 30-April 2 for removal of existing striping and installation of centerline rumble strip, striping and pavement markers.
MOUNTAIN VIEW
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction, between mile posts 16 and 20 in the vicinity of North Peck Road and North Glenwood, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 30-April 2 for mechanical mowing.
NĀʻĀLEHU
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction, between mile posts 65 and 66 in the vicinity of Kaʻaluʻalu Road to Konohiki Street, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 28-31 for emergency road repair. Alternating traffic will be routed through the open lane.
KĪPĀHOEHOE
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction, between mile posts 88 and 90 in the vicinity of Old Māmalahoa Highway and Yee Hop Ranch Road, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 30-April 2 for tree trimming and mechanical mowing.
KAʻAWALOA TO HŌLUALOA
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction, between mile posts 109 and 118 in the vicinity of Koa Road and Judd Trail, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. March 30-April 2 for removal of existing striping and installing new striping and pavement markers.
KEAHOU
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction, between mile posts 114 and 115 in the vicinity of West Honalo Road and Puʻuloa Road, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 30-April 2 for mechanical mowing and cutting grass.
HIGHWAY 19
HAKALAU
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction, between mile posts 15 and 16 in the vicinity of Chin Chuck Road and Leopolino Road, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 30-April 2 for bridge maintenance..
NĪNOLE
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction, between mile posts 17.9 and 18.2 in the vicinity of Government Main Road, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 30-April 2 for work on Nanue Bridge.
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction, between mile posts 18 and 19 in the vicinity of Government Main Road and Old Māmalahoa Highway, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 30-April 2 for bridge maintenance.
PĀPAʻALOA
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction, between mile posts 21 and 22 in the vicinity of Kaihuiki Road and Uweki Road, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 30-April 2 for tree trimming and shoulder work.
ʻŌʻŌKALA
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction, between mile posts 29.8 and 32 in the vicinity of Kaʻawaliʻi Road and Government Main Road, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 30-April 2 for work on Kāholo Stream Bridge.
WAIMEA
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction, between mile posts 58 and 60 in the vicinity of Ko Uka Street and ‘Ohina Street, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 30-April 2 for shoulder work.
HIGHWAY 130
KEA‘AU TO KAIMŪ
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction, between mile posts 0 and 21.8 in the vicinity of Māmalahoa Highway and Kaimū-Chain of Craters Road, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 30-April 2 for removal of existing striping and applying new striping and pavement markers.
HIGHWAY 190
SOUTH KOHALA
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction, between mile posts 12 and 15, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 30-April 2 for mechanical mowing and cutting grass.
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction, between mile posts 12.2 and 16.4, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 30-April 2 for installation of new striping.
HIGHWAY 250
KOHALA
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction, between mile posts 9 and 11 in the vicinity of Foot Path, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 30-April 2 for shoulder work.
