19 motorists arrested for DUI week of Feb. 9-15 on Big Island roadways
Hawaiʻi Island police continue their crackdown on motorists who choose to drive on Big Island roadways under the influence of an intoxicant, arresting 19 motorists for DUI during the week of Feb. 9-15.
Six of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes; none were younger than 21 years old.
Police have made 95 DUI arrests so far this year, a decrease of 22.76c5 from the 123 DUI arrests made by the same time last year.
Kona had 10 of those arrests that week to top the list followed by Hilo with 6 and North Kohala in third with 2 DUI arrests.

Hawaiʻi Police Department Traffic Services Section also reviewed all updated crashes, finding 137 major crashes so far this year, an increase of 20.18% compared to 114 major crashes by the same time in 2025.
There were four fatal crashes resulting in four fatalities recorded as of Feb. 15 compared with five fatal crashes resulting in five fatalities by the same time last year, or a 20% decrease for fatal crashes and fatalities.
The non-traffic fatality count — those not on a public roadway — stands at zero just like last year by this time.
Police report DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide.
