An investigation is underway into a single-vehicle crash that killed a 20-year-old Hilo man, identified as Logan Quintal, the lone occupant of the vehicle, on Sunday afternoon.

Authorities report that on Jan. 11, at approximately 2:07 p.m., a white 2017 Jeep Renegade traveling east on Māhiai Street near Abuna Road left the right shoulder, struck a rock pile, and overturned in a single-vehicle collision.

Quintal was found unresponsive at the scene.

Fire and medical personnel attempted lifesaving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:20 p.m. As a result, Māhiai Street near Railroad Avenue was closed for three hours while investigators processed and cleared the area.
