Twelve local artists to display their work throughout Banyan Drive in Hilo today
Driftwood art to iPhone photography –– various, unique forms of art are on display throughout Banyan Drive in Hilo this afternoon.

The sixth annual Banyan Art Stroll is a multimedia art exhibit showcasing 12 artists, live music, activities, a silent auction, and prizes from noon to 6 p.m. today.
Liliʻuokalani Gardens will feature live artists demonstrating their craft. From noon to 3 p.m., Kurt Kishimori will demonstrate gyotaku (fish printing) at Suisan, and the Ice House will offer block printing demonstrations with Bob “Danhieux” Douglas.
Members of the Hilo Plein Air Group will paint scenes from 12 to 5 p.m., and Joshua Jahelka will demonstrate wooden toy craft and author Jane Hoff will be present from noon to 2 p.m. with her book, “Trees of Banyan Drive.”
Concurrently, the People’s Choice craft display and sale will be held at Hilo Bay Cafe.

Artist and teacher Patrick Ching is hosting keiki with a drawing and painting activity to welcome attendees at the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel from noon to 4 p.m.
The Hilo Hawaiian Hotel serves as a central hub for educational activities. Joachim Weisel is offering lessons in iPhone photography, Jack Kinkelaar will demonstrate oil painting, Sakiko Shinkai will teach portrait painting, Ancelyn Avila will demonstrate collage, and Sakiko Shinkai will teach portrait painting again.
Scheduled entertainment begins with Puna Taiko at noon near Banyan Gallery.
The Grand Naniloa Resort’s lobby lounge will also embrace the artistic energy. Featured performers include Brandon and Emma Nakano from noon to 2 p.m., Ben Kaili and Friends from 2 to 4 p.m., and Christy Lassiter and Kyle Kaʻaa from 4 to 6 p.m.
Music at the Hilo Hawaiian will include performances by Lou Ann Gurney and Leonard Kubo from 1 to 3 p.m.
“I love how many different art forms can not only be seen but also experienced during the art stroll. While planning can be difficult, it is usually worth it,” said Jelena Clay, owner of Banyan Art Gallery. “We have so many talented artists on our island, so any chance to support and encourage their work is good practice for me.”
The Banyan Art Stroll is free to the public from noon to 6 p.m. today. The remaining schedule is as follows:

- Six pop-up tents allow young artists to showcase handmade art from noon to 5 p.m.
Banyan Gallery
- Puna Taiko drummers begin at noon.
- Watercolor art demonstrations by Suzey Lacy, block print demos by Nash Pruitt, and pen and ink by Hunter Wilburn.
- Door prizes and pupu served at 1:30 p.m.
Castle Hilo Hawaiian Hotel
- Keiki paint and draw with Patrick Ching from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
- Artists Sakiko Shinkai, Ancelyn Avila, Jack Kinkelaar, and Bonnie Sol showcase their work in the lobby.
- Joachim Wiesel teaches iPhone tips and tricks.
- L&L Jazz Ensemble performs from 1 to 3 p.m.
- Pupu served at 3 p.m.

- Marilyn Montgomery demonstrates painting, and Abbie Rabinowitz shows pen and ink techniques.
- Jane Hoff discusses her book as a new author.
