One lane closure scheduled on Big Island state roadways week of Dec. 27 through Jan. 2, 2026

Hawai‘i Department of Transportation reports there is just one scheduled lane closure on Big Island state roadways the week of Dec. 27 through Jan. 2, 2026.

There also will be no lane closures or Highway 130 contraflow Jan. 1, 2026, in observance of New Year’s Day.

A holiday lane closure restriction is in effect through Jan. 4, 2026. Only closures with demonstrated need — such as those necessary for safety or to avoid lengthy construction delays — were approved and are on this list.

  • SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction, between mile posts 3.5 and 4.5 in the vicinity of Kāhoa Street, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 29-30 for emergency zone work paving and striping. For details on the ongoing emergency repairs Highway 19, between mile posts 3 and 15, click here.
