South Kohala Officer Kiley Loo named Officer of the Quarter for traffic safety efforts

During a ceremony held on Oct. 10 in South Kohala, Officer Kiley Loo of the South Kohala Patrol was recognized as the Officer of the Quarter for the third quarter of 2025 by the Hawai‘i Island Safety and Security Professionals Association.
“We appreciate Officer Loo for his dedication to roadway safety and his commitment to the FTO program,” said South Kohala District Captain Roylen Valera.
During the quarter, Officer Loo issued 312 traffic citations, which greatly contributed to traffic safety and enforcement in the South Kohala District.
He was responsible for half of the DUI arrests during his watch, reflecting his proactive approach to preventing impaired driving. Beyond traffic enforcement, Officer Loo investigated 281 incidents, highlighting his strong case management skills and ongoing dedication to serving the community.
In addition to his patrol duties, Officer Loo serves as the Field Training Coordinator for the South Kohala District, where he plays a vital role in preparing and mentoring new officers. His efforts ensure that incoming officers maintain the department’s high standards of professionalism and integrity.
Captain Valera added that he wanted to “remind motorists to plan extra time for travel, especially during the busy holiday season when people are shopping, attending gatherings, and visiting loved ones.”
“Roadway safety is everyone’s responsibility. Please don’t let friends or family drive intoxicated,” he said.
