Puna man charged with attempted sexual assault
Adonis Higa, 40, of Puna was arrested and charged in relation to a sexual assault incident that occurred on Thursday, Nov. 6, at a Hawaiian Paradise Park residence.

Higa made his initial appearance in Hilo District Court on Monday afternoon. His bail was set at $50,000, and he was ordered to appear for a preliminary hearing on Thursday, Nov. 13.
The Office of the Prosecuting Attorney stated that Higa is charged with attempted sexual assault in the second degree, a Class B felony offense carrying a maximum penalty of a 10-year prison term.
The charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
The case was initiated by Puna Patrol Officer Keanu Lum Won. The felony investigation was led by Detective Kelsey Kobayashi of the Area I Juvenile Aid Section, Hawaiʻi Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Heipua Ah Loy.
