Beach clean up encourages stewardship of Kona shoreline
Kona community outreach officers partnered with volunteers to clean Kalaepaʻakai Beach in Kailua-Kona last week.

Last Wednesday, approximately 20 volunteers, including six people experiencing homelessness and students from Youth With A Mission Kona, collected and bagged trash and debris scattered along the beach area.
The Kailua Village Business Improvement District hosted the cleanup to protect the shoreline environment and ecosystem, and to encourage community members to contribute to the health and beauty of the coastline whenever possible.
The nonprofit is working to create a model sustainable community that is a better place to invest, work, live and play by improving and maintaining the physical appearance and aesthetics of open spaces, beaches and parks.
