18 lane closures scheduled during week of Oct. 4-10 on Hawai‘i Island state roadways
Hawai‘i Department of Transportation announces the following 18 scheduled lane closures and road work projects on Big Island state roadways during the week of Oct. 4-10.

HIGHWAY 11
NĀʻĀLEHU
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE on Māmalahoa Highway possible in either direction between mile posts 60 and 71, in the vicinity of Kahuku Ranch Road, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 6-10 for restriping, installation of centerline rumble strips and pavement markers.
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE on Māmalahoa Highway possible in either direction between mile posts 67 and 69, in the vicinity of Kanoelehua Avenue, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 6-10 for cutting grass.
KEAUHOU
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE on Māmalahoa Highway possible in either direction between mile posts 113.5 and 116.5, in the vicinity of Daifukuji Buddhist Temple and Māmalahoa Highway, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 6-10 for removal of existing striping, installation of centerline rumble strip, striping and pavement markers.
VOLCANO
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE on Volcano Road possible in either direction between mile posts 27.5 and 28.5, in the vicinity of Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park and Old Volcano Road, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 6-10 for Hawaiian Electric installation of new powerline poles.
HIGHWAY 19
HILO
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE on Hawaiʻi Belt Road possible in either direction between mile posts 4.5 and 5, in the vicinity of Kāhoa Street and Kāhoa Place, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. on Thursday, October 9 for bridge maintenance.
PĀPAʻIKOU
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE on Hawaiʻi Belt Road possible in either direction between mile posts 8.2 and 8.5, in the vicinity of Indian Tree Road and Old Māmalahoa Highway, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 6-8 for bridge maintenance on Hanawai Bridge.
ONOMEA
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE on Hawaiʻi Belt Road possible in either direction between mile posts 9 and 9.5, in the vicinity of Old Onomea Road, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 9 for bridge maintenance on Kawainui Bridge.
HONOMŪ
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE on Hawaiʻi Belt Road possible in either direction between mile posts 12 and 14, in the vicinity of Cane Road and Old Māmalahoa Highway, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m Oct. 6-10 for cutting grass.
HAKALAU
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE on Hawaiʻi Belt Road possible in either direction between mile posts 15.1 and 15.6, in the vicinity of Leopolino Road, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 6-10 for installation of construction signs for work on Hakalau Bridge. Details: Click here.

- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE on Hawaiʻi Belt Road possible in either direction between mile posts 21 and 22, in the vicinity of Kaihuiki Road and Uweki Road, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 6-10 for grading and shoulder work.
HIGHWAY 130
PĀHOA
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE on Keaʻau-Pāhoa Bypass Road possible in either direction between mile posts 4 to 7, in the vicinity of 33rd Avenue, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 6-10 for mulching and shoulder work.
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE on Keaʻau-Pāhoa Bypass Road possible in either direction between mile posts 10 and 12 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 6-10 for cutting grass.
HIGHWAY 139
PĀHOA
- ROVING SHOULDER CLOSURE on Keaʻau-Pāhoa Road possible in either direction between mile posts 0.1 and 1.1, in the vicinity of Old Volcano Road and Keaʻau-Pāhoa Bypass Road, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 6-11 for maintaining lines and markings.
HIGHWAY 190
WAIMEA
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE on Māmalahoa Highway possible in either direction between mile posts 0 and 1, in the vicinity of Lindsey Road and Lālamilo Farm Road, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 6-10 for striping of lane lines, turn pockets and direction arrows.
SOUTH KOHALA
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE on Māmalahoa Highway possible in either direction between mile posts 2 and 9, in the vicinity of Saddle Road, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 6-10 for tree trimming and shoulder work.
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE on Māmalahoa Highway possible in either direction between mile posts 12.2 and 16.4, in the vicinity of Saddle Road, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 6-10 for striping of lane lines, turn pockets and direction arrows.
HIGHWAY 270
KAWAIHAE
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE on Akoni Pule Highway possible in either direction between mile posts 1 and 6 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 6-10 for cutting grass.
HIGHWAY 2000
HILO
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE on Pūʻainakō Street possible in either direction between mile posts 0.5 and 2.2, in the vicinity of Kanoelehua Avenue and Komohana Street, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 6-10 for striping, installing new raised pavement markers and traffic signal loops.
