Flood advisory in effect for Kaʻu District until 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday
The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for southeast portions of Hawaiʻi Island until 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday due to excessive rainfall.
At 4:12 p.m. radar indicated heavy rain over the southeast areas of the Big Island, in particular the Kaʻu District. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour.
Impacts could include minor flooding on roads and poor drainage areas.
Some locations that will experience flooding include Kawa Flats, Punaluʻu Beach, Naʻalehu, Pahala, Wood Valley, Hawaiian Ocean View, Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, Waiohinu, Discovery Harbour and Hawaii Volcanoes Park Kahuku Unit.
Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding in these areas.
This advisory may need to be extended beyond 715 PM HST if flooding
persists.
