Update: No tsunami threat to Hawaiian Islands following earthquake off Russia
Thursday update 10:50 a.m.: No tsunami threat is expected to Hawai‘i after a 7.8 magnitude earthquake off Russia.
Original post: A 7.8 magnitude earthquake that shook off the east coast of Kamchatka, Russia, this morning, could bring a tsunami to the Hawaiian Islands.
According to the National Weather Service, it is still to early to determine whether a tsunami threat is imminent. The earliest experts will know if a hazard exists will be by 2:51 p.m.
More information will be provided as it becomes available or sooner as the situation develops.
